StewartPROTECT Coverage
StewartPROTECT is an optional endorsement called a Closing Protection Letter that may be added to residential owner and lender policies. This endorsement covers insured homeowners and lenders for loss or damage due to errors or omissions by the legal professionals acting for them in the provision of legal services for the title insured transaction such as:
- errors in advice regarding the terms of the Agreement of Purchase and Sale
- improper adjustments of items listed on the Statement of Adjustments
- improper advice as to how to take title
When a matter is covered, insureds need not pursue a claim against their lawyer or notary and can instead look for compensation under the title insurance policy.
This endorsement is available for a nominal, additional one-time premium and attached at the time the order for title insurance is placed. It is available for properties located in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland & Labrador and P.E.I.

Coverage is not available for Existing Owner Policies, Commercial Policies, or policies insuring vendor take back mortgages.
