1. Information required to make a claim inquiry for tax or water arrears
A brief letter setting out the nature of the claim; the amount claimed; and your contact information. It is also important to indicate if the matter is time sensitive.
A copy of the Transfer/Deed
A copy of the Agreement of Purchase and Sale – for new homes only
A copy of the Statement of Adjustments
A copy of the Vendor’s Undertaking to readjust
A copy of the first tax or water bill received which shows the outstanding arrears which were incurred prior to the policy date.
Should this matter concern supplemental or special assessments, please provide a copy of the notice from the municipality disclosing the reason behind the assessment and the year to which it applies. Again, please confirm that these charges accrued prior to the policy date.
If the arrears have already been paid, please provide us with your proof of payment.
Completion of the Consent Form by the named Insured(s) in the Schedule A of the Policy. The said Release will allow Stewart Title to obtain clarifying information (if necessary) directly from the municipality.

Once the documentation submitted is reviewed, the Claims Associate handling the inquiry may contact you for additional information. For some tax claim inquiries it may be necessary to provide a Detailed Transaction Report from the municipality.

2. How to submit your claim inquiry

Upon becoming aware of a potential tax or water arrears claim, you may submit your claim inquiry to the Claims Department via any of the methods noted below:

3. When you can expect a response

Upon receipt of the initial claim inquiry, a confirmation of receipt of your inquiry will be forwarded to you within two business days. This will be done via facsimile, mail or e-mail, depending on the contact information provided.
